Turn Around: 14 Days

Thoughts:

It was great to receive Mr. Bathgate's autographs in the mail yesterday. He is the reason NHL goalies wear masks today. He was an awesome player and has a very wonderful autograph. He is quickly becoming one of my favourites. He was nice enough to autograph the blank card I send in the envelope for support.

Doug Gilmour

STATS:

Mailed: Monday, October 26, 2009
Returned: Wednesday, November 4, 2009
Turn Around: 9 Days
Details: (3/3) - c/o Kingston Frontenacs

Thoughts:

One of the greatest Maple Leaf Captains and certainly one of the bright spots in a tough wait for the Stanley Cup. Doug Gilmour has always been one of my all-time favourite Maple Leafs. He played with passion and determination. If you haven't seen his leadership in the '93 series against Detroit, I strontly suggest you take a look. An unbelievable series!

It is amazing to receive his autograph so quickly. Thank you Mr. Gilmour! You've made me happy (pun intended).

Jean Beliveau

STATS:

Mailed: Monday, October 26, 2009
Returned: Monday, November 2, 2009
Turn Around: 7 Days
Details: (2/2) - c/o Montreal Canadiens

Thoughts:

A slight departure from my collection of the Toronto Maple Leafs, but probably not my last one. I have never met Mr. Beliveau, however, I have been told by a dear friend of mine that there is aura that follows him. Hopefully, one day I will be able to experience it, but for now, I am extremely thrilled to have such a prompt return from such a legendary player.

Dick Duff

STATS:

Mailed: Monday, October 26, 2009
Returned: Thursday, October 29, 2009
Turn Around: 4 Days
Details: (4/3) - sent to Home Address

Thoughts:

Mr. Duff is a former St. Mike's player that had a wonderful career as a Toronto Maple Leaf. I am amazed how quickly he signed the cards. He also included a 4x6 signed photograph of himself as an added bonus. Furthermore, he taped up the envelope really well so that the cards wouldn't get damaged. I am extremely impressed how benevolent the older players are. It is such a stark contrast to today's superstars.

Johnny Bower

STATS:

Mailed: Wednesday, October 14, 2009
Returned: Thursday, October 22, 2009
Turn Around: 8 Days
Details: (4/4) - sent to Home Address

Thoughts:

Johnny Bower is one of the best Maple Leaf goalies of all time, and such a wonderful man. I wish all athletes were like Mr. Bower. He always has a smile on his face and is always willing to sign.

Leonard "Red" Kelly

STATS:

Mailed: Monday, October 19, 2009
Returned: Thursday, October 22, 2009
Turn Around: 4 Days
Details: (4/4) - sent to Home Address

Thoughts:

This was my first ever mailing. I met Mr. Kelly at an Autograph session in Whitby in 2008, and he was extremely gracious. I decided to write to this great Leaf Captain and Coach because he has one of the best signatures.

I plan to send the "Opening Night Face Off" card to Mr. Jim Thomson in the near future.

It begins...

I've been meaning to start collecting autographs through the mail for several months now. I am happy to say that it has finally begun. No official focus yet, except maybe collecting anything and everything related to the Maple Leafs.

It may be a team in transition, but one with a tremendous tradition!

Will be back with an update soon.
